Maguire and Varane expected to leave Manchester United
Rio Ferdinand expect Manchester United captain Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane to leave the club as Erik Ten Hag seek to rebuild the team.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has stated that he is expect to see the team backline trimmed as Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane future at the club remain a doutb.
New Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag seek to rebuild the team ahead of the new season and the defense is a major are he needs to work on.
Having conceded a club-record high of 57 goals last campaign, the Red Devils are eager to sign a few defensive reinforcements to plug the leak ahead of Erik ten Hag‘s debut season in Manchester.
Manchester United target Ajax defender Jurrien Timber as new manager Erik Ten Hag seek to rebuild the team.
His arrival could bring an end for ‘one or two’ of Maguire, Varane, Victor Lindelof or Eric Bailly, according to former Manchester United legend Ferdinand.
“I’ll be interested to see what Ten Hag does in that area,” the 43-year-old told Vibe with Five.
“We’re talking about the young lad, Timber, at Ajax, a small centre-half.
“I’ll be interested to see what happens with Varane, Lindelof and Maguire, Bailly as well, I think one or two of those will go.”
The defensive quartet cost the club a combined total of £182million, but Manchester United have yet to find a consistent defensive pairing at centre-half.
Due to hamstring tears and muscular problems, Varane only managed 20 starts in the Premier League last season, whilst Maguire started just 28 despite owning the captain’s armband.
Bailly, having averaged eight matches per year over the last four seasons, is most likely to exit the club this summer.
