Neymar, reflecting on his time at PSG alongside Messi, candidly describes it as a period of torment and upheaval, revealing, “We lived through hell.”

Neymar has expressed that he endured incredibly challenging times alongside his former teammate Lionel Messi during their shared period at Paris Saint-Germain.

However, they both departed from PSG recently, with Messi joining Inter Miami CF as a free agent and Neymar making a €90 million ($98.6 million) transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

Asked how he felt about seeing his good friend Messi lift the World Cup with Argentina in 2022, Neymar told Globo’s Esporte Espetacular in an interview given in June that aired on Sunday: “I was very happy for the year he had, but at the same time very sad, because he lived both sides of the coin. He went to heaven with the Argentina team, won everything in recent years, and with Paris he lived hell, we lived through hell, both he and I.”

After reuniting at PSG, Messi and Neymar secured league titles but couldn’t clinch the coveted Champions League trophy.

Messi faced challenges adapting to Paris, acknowledging a disconnect with a significant portion of PSG’s fanbase during his two-year stint.

Both players endured boos and jeers from PSG supporters following the team’s Champions League exits. In his last PSG home game, Messi even became the target of some discontented fans.

Neymar expressed his belief that the criticism directed at him and Messi was unwarranted.

“We get upset, because we’re not there for nothing, we’re there to do our best, [to] be champions, try to make history,” said Neymar, who missed the second half of last season with an ankle injury.

“That’s why we started playing together again, we came together there so we could make history. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it.”
