Potter enjoys performance despite defeat
Graham Potter took something Positive from their defeat against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup as he claims his side will fight for the points against Newcastle United in their final Premier League fixture before the World Cup.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter insists he enjoyed his side despite their defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao cup.
The Blues suffered an early exit in the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to fellow Premier League team last night.
Potter, who spoke after the game last night saw some positivity in the match despite the disappointing result to City.
“We’re disappointed with the result but in terms of how we played, we created some good chances,” Potter said after the game.
“We weren’t perfect but we did a lot right. There was a better structure and a better performance level. The team looked closer to what we want it to look like.
“The boys had great courage against a top team. We had big personality to try to play out and play through. It’s not easy because they defend so well. Their keeper got man of the match which tells a little bit of the story.
“Overall it was a step forward for us. There was a lot to like.”
The Blues will visit Newcastle United in the Premier League in their final fixture before the World cup as Potter admits it will be a tough game but they will fight for the points.
“We’re concerned when we don’t get the results we want. Our performances have not been what we want either in the last couple of games. Tonight was a big step in terms of how we want to play, and we can get confidence from that.
“It’s a big game at Newcastle, 5.30 on the TV, it’ll be a fantastic atmosphere. They’re doing really well, so it’ll be a tough game, but we have to try and go there and get the three points.”
