The Ballon d’Or ceremony took the center stage where players who did incredibly well were invited but only one outstanding play goes home with the award.

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema picked up the award ahead of Bayern Munich Sadio Mane and Manchester City Kevin De Bruyne.

He is the first Madrid player to receive the award since Luka Modric in 2018, and the first Frenchman to win since 1998 honoree Zidane, who awarded Benzema the trophy.

The France international picked up the prize — which is awarded by the magazine France Football — for the first time in his career at a ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.

Roma Manager Jose Mourinho reacted to the award Benzema stating that he contributed to the career of the French man.

He also remembered when he trained the French star: ” When I was his coach, he was a very talented footballer, in search of his identity as a player of the highest level, with the right ambitions and the right physical condition.

“I wanted him to grow as much as possible ,as fast as possible and I was hard on him, I corrected him in every little detail, the slightest extra kilo and the slightest minute of delay in training. I don’t know if I influenced his development, only he knows, but his very strong character allowed him to progress “.
