Steven Gerrard says he wants to get positive result against Liverpool at Anfield.

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard says he is preparing his team on getting a positive result against Liverpool at Anfield.

The former Rangers boss has been incredible since he signed for Villa this season and will face former club in the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of the game against Liverpool Gerrard said he respect and understand why people are talking about his return to Anfield.

He stated that it brings smile on his face he has the chance to compete with a good team and a good manager.

“For me, I really respect and understand the noise around the game for obvious reasons as I’m going back to a club I spent many years there.

“So it brings a smile to my face for many reasons. One, because I’ve got a good relationship with a lot of people at the club. I had a fantastic time there. I had a really good journey and I’m a local boy and supported them growing up and always will support that team. Of course I will.

“At the same time, it brings a smile to my face because I’ve got the opportunity to go there and compete against a good team and a good manager with the opportunity to try and win the game.

“That’s my only focus. The noise is for other people to get excited about. For me, it’s about preparing the team in the best way I can to get a positive result for Aston Villa. That’s the way I will be.

“Everyone in that stadium will know me well enough to know what I’m about and what I’m going to Anfield for.”

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard says his Aston Villa players are to receive more information on Covid-19 protection as football attempts to prevent the new Omicron variant from disrupting the sport.

Sunday’s Premier League game between Brighton and Tottenham has been postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak in the Spurs camp.

“I had a conversation last night with (chief executive) Christian Purslow,” Villa boss Gerrard said.

“He’s going to come down on Monday and address the players in more detail.

“But we have been told and warned that things are changing all the time. Just to be careful and look after ourselves.”
