Erik Ten Hag admits new signing Tyrell Malacia suit the profile of what he needed as a fullback at Manchester United.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has stated that new Red Devils signing Tyrell Malacia suit what the club is looking for.

The Dutch moved from Eredivisie club from Feyenoord this week to become Ten Hag’s first recruit at Old Trafford.

Malacia will provide competition for his new team mate Luke Shaw and Alex Telles in that position.

He said: “I think he’s the modern left-back or full-back. He suits the profile [we were looking for] and most important from every full-back is that he closes the right area.”

Ten Hag is aware of Malacia’s threat, and believes he can be a real asset to the Reds.

“He can also take part in the offensive side of our game, and he can do that really well. I think he will really contribute to the team.”

Speaking with the club media earlier this week Malacia stated that he can’t describe his feeling when he completed the move.

The left-back claims he spoke with the manager before his move and agreed to be part of what he is building at United.

“I spoke with him on the phone when everything was agreed, and it was a really positive vibe and feeling and he wants to improve everything and wants to win prizes so I’m looking forward to it.

“It makes it easier, but I met some of the players this morning already and they give me a good feeling and a welcome over here, so I feel like I’m at home already.”
