Ralf Rangnick frustrated following a 4-1 Manchester derby defeat as Pep Guardiola claims his team made United struggle in the game.

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick says he is frustrated with the display and result in the Manchester derby.

United was humiliated at the Etihad stadium yesterday after the suffer a 4-1 defeat to league leaders in the derby.

Speaking after the game Rangnick said: “[It is] frustrating for the players, for us because [after the third goal] we realised that it would probably be difficult to get back into that game. [It is disappointing] for everybody, not only for our supporters, for the players, for the whole staff, obviously you want to win a derby but we just have to admit that in the second half, especially after the third one, they showed what kind of top quality team they have”.

Rangnick lament of not having strikers on the pitch as Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani were out with injury with Marcus Rashford brought-in in the second half of the game.

“We had not that may strikers available today, the only one that we had on the bench was Marcus, who we brought on after 60 mins, so for us it was clear we have to have as many players on the pitch who get behind the ball and we make sure that we are as compact as we can possibly be”, Rangnick added

Meanwhile, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was happy with his performance of his team as he called it an ‘excellent display’ in his post-match conference.

He admitted his team struggled to create chances in the first half of the game but were dominate from the first minutes of the second half till the end.

“The display was excellent,” Guardiola said at his post-match press conference.

“We let them run a lot in the first half but we made an excellent performance. I am the biggest critic of my team, but today in the second half we played really good.

“We struggled to make a better build up [in the first half] but I don’t think they created much problems.

“We felt from the first minute of the second half that we had the game in hand.

“Today, the best thing we have done, especially in the second half, was that we played with the rhythm we have to play.

“We cannot play all the time in one rhythm. In the right moment we have to run and today we did it really well.”
