Alcaraz Impresses on Grass Shifts expectations

Carlos Alcaraz has expressed a shift in his expectations following another impressive performance at Queen’s, which has boosted his confidence ahead of the upcoming Wimbledon tournament.

Notably, Alcaraz seems to be adapting swiftly to grass, a surface he openly admits is his weakest.

Demonstrating his prowess, he has secured two consecutive victories in West London this week, the latest being a triumphant win against Jiri Lehecka. These developments send a foreboding message to his competitors on the tour.

In previous media appearances, Alcaraz expressed his cautious outlook for the grass season due to his limited experience on this surface.

However, following his triumph on Thursday, the Spanish player appeared thrilled with his rapid improvement.

“After this match, this level, the expectations change,” Alcaraz said. “I think I’m ready to do great results here on grass.
“Playing my first quarter-final here, I’m going to enjoy it. I’m enjoying every single second here, and of course I will go into the next round with a lot of confidence and I will go for it.
“Playing these kind of matches, the level that I played – I’m ok with that.
“I feel really comfortable here on grass so I’m really happy getting experience on grass, getting hours. Knowing that I have this level, I’m really happy about it.”
“I’ve always said that you have to move well on grass and from there everything else follows,” Alcaraz said.
Following his victory over Arthur Rinderknech in the first round, Alcaraz openly expressed his primary concern regarding his performance on grass, particularly his movement.
However, he also revealed that he had been drawing inspiration from renowned players who have excelled on the grass court. This newfound motivation seemed to bear fruit as Alcaraz showcased his exceptional skills and delivered some remarkable shots during his triumph over Lehecka.
“Speaking for myself, I like to put on videos of [Roger] Federer, of [Andy] Murray, who are among the players that move best on grass. I’m not going to talk about [Novak] Djokovic because he slides like he’s on clay and that’s not going to be the case for me.
“It’s not about how they strike the ball, because everyone has their own style, but seeing how they move, and trying to imitate them.”
