Timberwolves have reached an agreement with center Naz Reid on a three-year contract worth $42 million
Center Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves has reached an agreement on a new three-year contract worth $42 million, as confirmed by his agents, Sean Kennedy and Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management.
The deal includes a player option and ensures Reid’s continued presence with the franchise that he joined as an undrafted player and developed into a crucial frontcourt contributor.
The inclusion of a player option for the 2025-26 season grants Reid the opportunity to negotiate another contract in two years’ time.
Reid showcased his best performance in the previous season, averaging 11.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in just 18 minutes per game.
Unfortunately, a wrist fracture sidelined him for the final weeks of the regular season, the play-in tournament, and the Western Conference playoffs, leaving the Timberwolves noticeably impacted by his absence during their first-round defeat to the eventual NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets.
With Reid approaching free agency next week, there was a risk of losing him. However, his agents, Kennedy and Schwartz, engaged in lengthy negotiations with Timberwolves president Tim Connelly and eventually reached an agreement on Sunday.
Since his arrival from LSU in 2019, Reid’s emergence as a key bench player behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert in the Timberwolves’ frontcourt has made him an enticing prospect across the league.
He also boasted impressive shooting percentages, hitting 53.7 percent of his field goals and making 34.6 percent of his three-point attempts.
Following the All-Star break in February, Reid recorded 242 points in just 312 minutes of playing time. According to ESPN Stats & Information research, only MVP Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers averaged more points per minute during that period. NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokic ranked third.
Despite being only 24 years old (turning 24 in August), Reid would have become an unrestricted free agent due to his rookie contract, similar to Jalen Brunson’s situation with the Dallas Mavericks before his departure to the New York Knicks last summer. However, the new agreement ensures Reid’s continued presence with the Timberwolves.
