Man U considers alternative targets as Mount deal stall
According to sources at ESPN, Manchester United is exploring alternative midfield targets due to concerns over stalled negotiations with Chelsea regarding Mason Mount.
Despite having three bids rejected, including the latest offer of approximately £55 million ($69.9 million) on Friday, United remains determined to acquire Mount.
Chelsea has indicated a willingness to accept a deal worth £58 million plus an additional £7 million in add-ons, suggesting face-to-face discussions to resolve the situation.
However, United believes their valuation is fair, considering Mount’s contract expires in a year and he has expressed his desire to move to Old Trafford.
While United’s latest offer for Mount remains on the table, they have also made inquiries about other potential targets. These include Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus, and Taylor Booth from FC Utrecht.
United is operating within a strict budget this summer, which necessitates careful financial planning. In addition to a midfielder, manager Erik ten Hag aims to secure a striker and a goalkeeper.
The uncertainty surrounding David de Gea’s future might require United to invest in an established number one instead of a cheaper option who could offer competition for the Spaniard.
David de Gea’s contract is set to expire soon, and negotiations for a new deal are currently ongoing.
