Antetokounmpo’s Record-Breaking 64-Point Game Overshadowed by Postgame Dispute Over Ball
In a stunning display of talent, Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo set a franchise record by scoring an incredible 64 points during the Bucks’ clash against the Indiana Pacers. However, the historic night was marred by a postgame dispute over the game ball, resulting in a heated confrontation between players and staff from both teams.
Following the Bucks’ 140-126 victory, tensions flared as Antetokounmpo engaged in a heated discussion with Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton and other members of the Indiana staff. The dispute arose over the possession of the game ball, which Indiana had taken to commemorate Oscar Tshiebwe’s first official NBA point in the game.

Antetokounmpo, echoing Carlisle’s sentiments, termed the incident as “unfortunate” and clarified that he sought the ball to commemorate Damian Lillard’s milestone of surpassing Kyle Korver for fifth place in NBA history with his 2,451st career 3-pointer.
Amidst the chaos, confusion arose regarding the whereabouts of the game ball, with conflicting reports about its possession. Antetokounmpo admitted uncertainty about the ball he ended up with, stating it didn’t feel like the actual game ball.
This controversy overshadowed Antetokounmpo’s historic performance, where he shattered the Bucks’ record with his 64-point game. He displayed unparalleled dominance on the court, making NBA history by becoming the first player to achieve at least 20 field goals and 20 free throws while shooting over 70% on both, all while taking fewer than 30 field goal attempts in a game.
