David Ferrer, the captain of Spain’s Davis Cup team, has stated that Rafael Nadal could potentially represent Spain in the Davis Cup, even if he is not fully fit.

David Ferrer, the captain of Spain’s Davis Cup team, has expressed his willingness to consider including Rafael Nadal in the squad, even if he is not fully fit.

Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, withdrew from the French Open last month due to fitness concerns and has hinted at the possibility of retiring from professional tennis next year. Since his early exit from the Australian Open in January, Nadal has not competed in any matches.

However, he mentioned the potential of returning towards the end of the year for the Davis Cup.

Spain’s Group C campaign commences on September 12, where they will face Serbia, Czech Republic, and South Korea in a bid to secure a spot in the final eight, who will compete in November. Ferrer has indicated that Nadal could be part of the team this year.

“Possibly yes, for all that he can transmit,” he told Eurosport.
“Nadal even without being 100% is a very special player, who transmits a lot and who is so good on court.
“You can trust him for his ability to suffer and in his tennis.”
Following his victory at the French Open, Novak Djokovic surpassed Rafael Nadal in the all-time men’s Grand Slam singles titles standings, securing his 23rd major.
Djokovic’s triumph in Paris puts him on track for a Calendar Slam this year, having already emerged victorious at the Australian Open in January.
David Ferrer, expressing his views on the matter, acknowledged Djokovic’s deserving win at the French Open and highlighted the potential for the Serbian player to accomplish this historic feat.
He added: “It is not going to be easy, but Djokovic is one the greatest in history and is qualified to it.
“If physically he is in very good shape, he has just won the Grand Slam which is more difficult due to his game, and he has achieved it with resolve.
“He deserved to win.”
