Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag was satisfied with his team performance in the defeat against Manchester City at Etihad.

In a clash at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance despite a 3-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City.

Marcus Rashford’s stunning eighth-minute goal gave United an early lead, showcasing their ability to exploit City’s defensive vulnerabilities.

Ten Hag praised his team for executing tactical instructions effectively, emphasizing their defensive solidity and ability to create scoring opportunities.

However, he highlighted two pivotal moments that swung the game in City’s favor, both involving potential fouls on Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, thwarted by Kyle Walker and Ederson, respectively.

“I looked back and I asked Rashy and there was contact. Maybe soft, but there was contact [with him] and it’s just you get out of the rhythm. We also had the moment with Garnacho in the breakthrough. And I think [it was] a reckless action of the goalkeeper from City. In that attack after, we conceded the goal.”

Reflecting on the match, Ten Hag admitted disappointment but also noted the positive aspects of United’s play, citing their defensive organization and promising attacking moments.

He acknowledged the team’s progress since a lackluster performance against Fulham the previous week, emphasizing the need to accumulate points and win crucial fixtures to secure a Champions League spot.

Despite the setback, Ten Hag remains optimistic about the team’s trajectory and the competitive nature of the Premier League.

He emphasized the importance of bouncing back in upcoming matches, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the league where any team can triumph over another.

With an eye on the coveted Champions League spot, Ten Hag urged his players to maintain the fight and secure crucial victories in the remaining fixtures.

As the season unfolds, Manchester United finds itself in a race for a top-five position, emphasizing the significance of every point gained or lost.

Ten Hag’s belief in the team’s ability to compete and turn the tide sets the tone for a determined approach in the upcoming challenges that lie ahead for the Red Devils.
