Three teams in the NBA have the value of over $5 billion as the New York Knicks, The Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers takes the first to third position respectively.
With the valuation of these three teams this marks another milestone in the history of the NBA, where three franchises are worth over $5 billion.
According to Forbes list on the most valuable team in the NBA the New York Knicks have come out on top for the seventh consecutive year.
- New York Knicks: the New York Knicks, are an American professional basketball team based in the New York City borough of Manhattan. The Knicks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The New York Knicks is valued at around $5.8 billion.
- Golden State Warriors: The Golden State Warriors are an American professional basketball team based in San Francisco. The Warriors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. In May 2021, Arctos Sports Partners bought about a 5% stake in the Warriors in a deal that valued the team at roughly $5.5 billion with a minority ownership discount. The Golden State Warriors is valued at $5.6 billion.
- Los Angeles Lakers: The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Lakers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. In July 2021, the Lakers were valued at $5.5 billion in the sale of Philip Anschutz’s 27% stake in the team to Los Angeles Dodgers owners Mark Walter and Todd Boehly. In September the Lakers signed a new jersey patch deal with South Korean food company Bibigo, the first global sponsorship for the franchise. Financial terms of the agreement were not made public, but the Los Angeles Times reports that Bibigo will pay the Lakers more than $100 million over five years. Bibigo replaces Wish, which reportedly was paying between $12-14M annually for the jersey patch rights. Seoul-based Bibigo also becomes the first global partner for the Lakers under the NBA’s international marketing program that allows each team up to three overseas sponsors, driving the value of the Bibigo agreement. The deal includes courtside branding, and social and digital campaigns. The Bibigo logo also will appear on the Lakers’ practice uniform and the team’s G-League South Bay Lakers franchise. The LA Lakers value stands at $5.5 billion.
