Jimmy Butler on James Harden trade request: “I just want the guy to be happy”

Jimmy Butler was asked about James Harden’s trade situation, as the 2018 MVP asked out of Houston. Butler, who was part of a similar situation in Minnesota two seasons ago, shared his opinion on the matter.

(via Ira Winderman of Sun Sentinel):

“There’s a lot of stuff always in the media. I think that he’s a hell of player. I like the group we have. To tell you the truth, I just want the guy to be happy. That’s what life is about. That’s what the game is about,” the Heat’s superstar told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols.

At first, the three-time scoring champion reportedly wanted to get traded to the Brooklyn Nets, but Harden has also told the Rockets he’s fine with getting dealt to any contending NBA team including the Heat, the Bucks and the Sixers.

The Heat will have to give up many young pieces and assets to acquire one of the best players in the NBA. Miami reached the 2020 NBA Finals with Butler playing a crucial role as the leading veteran star.

The Heat are not willing to include Tyler Herro or any other vital member of the team in a potential offer for Harden. On the other hand, the Rockets will demand huge compensation to let their iconic superstar go.
