Harry Kane is expected to recover in time for Bayern Munich’s Champions League match against Aston Villa, despite suffering an ankle injury during their 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern Munich’s striker Harry Kane sustained an ankle injury during their 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen but is expected to be back in time for their Champions League clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Kane was forced off late in the game after a collision with Leverkusen’s Amine Adli and was replaced by Thomas Müller in the 86th minute.

Bayern Munich issued a statement following the match, noting that Kane’s injury was showing positive signs and that he would continue to receive intensive treatment.

Kane has a history of ankle injuries, having suffered several during his time at Tottenham, but early assessments suggest this latest knock is not serious.

The match against Leverkusen saw Bayern dominate in terms of chances, with 18 shots compared to Leverkusen’s three, yet the reigning Bundesliga champions were unable to secure a victory.

“It felt like we did what we had to do to win a tough game,” Kompany told media. “It can’t always go your way, but I think this is as close as it could get against a strong Leverkusen team, for us to actually have a good game. And then in the end if you hit the crossbar and the post and a couple of big chances, you don’t score them, against this type of team, it’s always difficult.

“In the end we conceded how many shots? One or two? You don’t get this, in this type of game, absolutely not. That’s the best team in Germany last year and for us that’s the benchmark and we want to become the best team this year.”

Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich opened the scoring with a long-range effort before Aleksandar Pavlovic equalized for Bayern in the 31st minute. Despite their efforts, Bayern couldn’t find a winner, leaving them two points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich will now turn their focus to their upcoming Champions League match, hoping Kane will be fit to face Aston Villa at Villa Park. The fixture marks a replay of the 1982 European Cup final, where Aston Villa triumphed 1-0.
