Russell Westbrook suffered injury three days to the NBA season as Lakers suffer huge blow.
Laker point guard Russell Westbrook was injured in his team’s last preseason game, which ended in defeat to the Sacramento Kings (133-86), after suffering a hamstring injury to his left leg, Marca reported.
Westbrook came on as a substitute in the first quarter of the game before suffering from the hamstring, and he will be reassessed throughout the day today.
It is not yet clear how he was injured, but his trainer, Darvin Ham , said after the game that Westbrook had assured her that he believed he was not serious and would recover soon.
Westbrook did not start that final Lakers game in a move that Ham said before the game was “not a demotion” but “a realignment.” Westbrook stepped onto the court and didn’t score in the five minutes he played before retiring injured.
The Lakers were also without Anthony Davis in this latest preseason rehearsal. The center didn’t even travel to Sacramento out of an abundance of caution as he continues to manage lower back strain, according to the team, which expects Davis to be available Tuesday for the regular-season opener against the Golden State Warriors . .
German point guard Dennis Schroder also did not play against the Kings due to a thumb injury that will sideline him for the start of the season.
