Sportscliffs: Why Newcastle United is a perfect place for Nathan Ake

With the lack of playing time at Manchester City and the interest of Newcastle United in Nathan Ake, will the Magpies be a perfect place for the Dutch?

Premier League club Newcastle United are in the market to strengthen their squad after the escape relegation despite a poor start to the season.

The Saudi Consortium took over the Magpies club and ended the contract of former Manager Steve Bruce and the employed former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

Howe has proved with the little time he has been given by the club that he can do a good job when he gets the right players for the team.

One of the players that has been on the radar of Newcastle United is Manchester City defender Nathan Ake.

The Dutch defender joined the Cityzens back in 2020 for a reported fee of £41 million from Bournemouth. But with City having the likes of Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones in their ranks, Ake isn’t getting the game time he desires, only making 40 appearances in the two years he has been at the club.

The Dutch has played under the former Eddie Howe when he was at Bournemouth and was a useful player for the team.

Ake made 115 appearances in the Premier League for Bournemouth under Howe, making him one of the key players as the Cherries achieved their highest Premier League finish of 9th, before helping them finish mid-table in the two seasons that followed.

Lack of playing time at City will make the Dutch man leave the Etihad team ahead of next season and since the Magpies wants to strengthen their defense then it will be a good move for Nathan Ake as he will be playing under his former manager who trust him at the heart of the defense.
