Sevilla sacks manager Jorge Sampaoli
Sevilla have sacked their manager just weeks before their Europa League quarter-final clash with Manchester United.
Sevilla have parted ways with former Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli with the Spanish side just two points above LaLiga’s relegation zone.
Sevilla are set to take on Manchester United in the first leg of their last-eight tie on April 13 at Old Trafford, before the return leg in Spain on April 20.
The club are planning to have a new head coach in place before then, saying in a statement they are hoping to finalise Sampaoli’s replacement today… and even in time for the new boss to take training tonight!
“Sevilla FC has terminated the contract with its coach, Jorge Sampaoli, after the team’s defeat in Getafe, which has once again placed the team on the verge of relegation places,” read a statement.
“The fact that the team has not managed to get out of the lowest positions in the table since his incorporation as coach and the image offered in the last matches of the team have led the club to make this decision, in search of a reaction in the twelve last days that remain to finish the League.
“Sevilla FC thanks Sampaoli for the services he has provided and wishes him the best of luck in his future.
The club is working in the last few hours to hire a new coach and the intention is for him to lead the training session scheduled for 6:00 p.m this afternoon.”
