Ten Hag goalkeeper’s choice come under scrutiny

As Erik ten Hag looks to secure a new goalkeeper, Manchester United’s pursuit of Jordan Pickford has come under scrutiny.

Manchester United’s interest in Jordan Pickford has raised doubts as Erik ten Hag seeks to acquire a new goalkeeper.

According to talkSPORT, the Red Devils have expressed interest in the Everton player due to David De Gea’s uncertain future.

During a discussion on the Sports Breakfast show, talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent debated whether a goalkeeper is truly what Manchester United requires.

He said: “Pickford I think is the type of goalkeeper that fits the profile for Erik ten Hag, he wants someone who can play the ball out from the back.

“Obviously Pickford like De Gea is a very good shot-stopper, but again, it’s not going to be a cheap deal to do this, because Pickford signed a new contract midway through last season.

“So they would be looking at David Raya-type money [£40million]. I just wonder, is that really the area Manchester United need to strengthen the most?

“We know they want a No9, we know Mason Mount is their top target – talks continue with Chelsea on that one. I think Pickford would be a good addition.

“I think Ten Hag likes Pickford, he likes the profile, but it remains to be seen, I guess it could depend on this takeover, we’re expecting some developments there this week in terms of how much Manchester United have to spend in the summer.”
