Ten Hag hails perfect response from United
Erik Ten Hag has hailed the perfect response from his side after to Anfield set back in their victory against Real Betis.
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag insists his side gave a perfect response to shake away their Sunday defeat to Liverpool against Spanish side in the Europa League.
The Red Devils defeated Real Betis 4-1 in the first leg of their round of 16 Europa League tie at Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford gave his side the opening goal in the early minutes of the game before former Newcastle and Leicester player Ayoze Perez draw level before the end of the first half.
Former Ajax player Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst were all on the score sheet to give United an advantage in the Europa League.
“I think we played well, the second half especially. 4-1. Good goals. Good performance also to give something to the fans, and they gave us something back as well because they were right behind us,” Ten Hag said after the match. “Very grateful after Sunday.
“It’s always see how a team reacts after a setback. We can reset, we can bounce back, this team has character.”
Marcus Rashford, who couldn’t find the back of the net at Anfield believes United needs to build on the momentum ahead of their next game.
“It’s a step back in the right direction,” Rashford said. “Obviously, we have to build on this now to gain momentum again. We can’t put too much emphasis on Sunday, because it’s gone, we can’t change it.”
