Ten Hag: Sherriff can not be underestimated
Erik Ten Hag believes Sheriff Tiraspol have goot record against big teams in Europe and they need not underestimate the team; the Dutch further explain the importance of squad rotation.
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has stated that their Europa League opponent Sheriff Tiraspol cannot be underestimated.
The team looks like an underdog in the group but with what they have done in Europe the Dutch man believe they have to be careful with their approach against them.
Manchester United will visit Sheriff Tiraspol in the second match of the Europa League, a team that has gave Champions League holder Real Madrid tough time sometimes ago.
Speaking ahead of the game Ten Hag believe the Moldovan club has been impressive in Europe but believe they are capable of beating them.
“That is clear. They beat Real Madrid, and beat Shakhtar Donetsk but, also, we know what we are capable of. We beat the number one team from last season [in some respects] in Liverpool and beat the current number one in the league [in Arsenal] so it’s up to us. If we perform, we will get the right result.”
Manchester United will not be playing any match in the Premier League following the postponement of their match against Leeds United.
The former Ajax manager believe that will give them more time to focus and reserve their energy.
“It’s clear we are used to more games, every three days, and now we have to wait longer so it’s more energy, more focus. So we are really looking forward to this game.
“I think we had good days, where we could give the players some time for themselves, but then also, after that, we had that that time when we had some really good sessions. I think it will be really beneficial for the future, and to start tomorrow.”
When asked how important will squad rotation will be to him considering the international break, Ten Hag said: “First, we have to see this game. Let’s focus on that and then we will see. Of course, I am aware there is a break and we are planning but that’s not important at this moment. There is only one thing that is important and that is this game.”
