Review: Crystal Palace vs Arsenal
This is the review of the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
Crystal Palace hosted Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the first game of the 2022/23 Premier League on Friday.
The London derby came early after series of preseason friendly games from both teams.
Arsenal got the deserved 2-0 win against the Eagles in the game as goals from Gabriel Martinelli and an own goal from Marc Guehi gave the Gunners three points.
What was said before the match?
Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira admitted before the game that it will be a difficult game against Arsenal, Sportscliffs reported.
He made it known before the game that the Gunners have gotten a different team and believed they are much stronger.
Before the game Vieira also stated that they also have the tools to face Arsenal and also added that they will mount pressure on the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta stated before the game that the game would be a different game to last season.
He stated that they had to pay the price last season because they were not up to standard in the game.
What was said after the game?
Patrick Vieira
“The difference between the two teams today is that they scored those goals, and we created two really good chances to score,” Vieira said after the match. “We were in a really good period in the second-half and we didn’t take our chances.
“Of course I’m disappointed, because I thought we could score a couple of goals today even though we didn’t create very much, but they took their chances and we didn’t.
“But football is about trying to score goals. We were playing against a good side. We had chances in both halves and we didn’t take it – in the game you get punished really hard.
“It is really difficult to control the game when you play against a team that has so much quality technically,” he said. “They had a really good period in the first 15 to 20 minutes. I think after that we had the ball, we had situations but we didn’t create very much.
“In games like that there is a key moment, and in those key moments we didn’t score that goal to lift the crowd and to build even more that momentum. This is something that we have to work on.”
Mikel Arteta
“It’s a really good win. It’s a very difficult thing to do because they created an atmosphere here and they are a really good side. They created so many issues and we experienced that last season and to come here and win in the way that we did it, credit to the boys. I’m really happy”, Arteta said.
“The disappointing thing was that we didn’t score more goals because we had so many opportunities and we looked a real threat, but we cannot expect to do that here for 95 minutes, it’s not going to happen.
“Then we have moments where we have to show and dig in and be accountable in our job, especially when we are defending deep, and we did that fantastically well, so I’m really happy to get the clean sheet and the win.”
Arsenal claimed three points and two goals in their first game and that shows a perfect start for them this season.
