Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure at Manchester United, as he admits he must deliver better results to maintain the club’s backing after a poor start to the season.

Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag is facing pressure following  a 3-0 loss to Liverpool before the international break. The defeat further highlighted United’s struggles early in the season, has raised questions about Ten Hag’s position at the club.

Despite backing from CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth, Ten Hag is aware that the support from the club’s leadership is based on results.

Ahead of United’s upcoming clash with Southampton, Ten Hag admits that his tenure at the club depends on delivering victories. While his contract was extended over the summer, the team’s performance has not lived up to expectations.

United finished eighth in the Premier League last season, salvaging their campaign with an FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. However, with two defeats in the first three games of the new season, concerns are growing among fans and within the club.

The 54 years old who previously achieved significant success with Ajax, admitted that the challenges at United extend beyond his control. He pointed to a period of significant change within the club, which includes shifts in leadership and ownership structures.

Despite these upheavals, Ten Hag emphasized that the team is working towards achieving higher goals than in previous seasons.

One of Ten Hag’s summer signings, Matthijs de Ligt, has also come under criticism following his performance in the Netherlands’ recent 2-2 draw against Germany.

The defender, who was substituted at half-time, has faced criticism from Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman. However, Ten Hag defended De Ligt, suggesting the issue lies with his international form rather than his performance at the club.

As United prepares for their trip to Southampton, Ten Hag knows that pressure is mounting. The Dutch manager must now find a way to reverse his team’s poor form and re-establish momentum to retain the confidence of the club’s leadership and its supporters.
