Chelsea open to sell goalkeeping duo
Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy up for sale as the club invites offers for their goalkeeping duo.
According to the latest reports, Chelsea Football Club is open to receiving offers for both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, their current goalkeepers. This news comes from reliable sources at talkSPORT, indicating that the club may be looking to make changes in that position. Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is said to be keen on acquiring a new number one goalkeeper, with two names at the top of his radar: Andre Onana from Inter Milan and Emiliano Martinez, the World Cup winner from Aston Villa.
Andre Onana caught Pochettino’s attention with his impressive performance in the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City. Onana’s ability with the ball at his feet stood out, showcasing his technical skills and composure under pressure. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been a key player for Inter Milan and has caught the eye of several top clubs with his consistent performances.
Emi Martinez, on the other hand, has established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League since his move from Arsenal to Aston Villa in 2020. The Argentine goalkeeper has been a standout performer for Villa, earning praise for his shot-stopping abilities and commanding presence in the penalty area. Martinez’s experience and World Cup-winning pedigree make him an attractive option for Pochettino and Chelsea.
If Chelsea decides to pursue either Onana or Martinez, it could mark a significant shift in their goalkeeping department. Kepa Arrizabalaga, who became the world’s most expensive goalkeeper when Chelsea signed him in 2018, has struggled to live up to expectations during his time at the club. Edouard Mendy, signed in 2020, has performed admirably but may not possess the long-term solution that Pochettino desires.
Ultimately, the decision to sell Kepa or Mendy and acquire a new goalkeeper will depend on Chelsea’s priorities and Pochettino’s vision for the team. With the reported interest in Onana and Martinez, it appears that the club is exploring options to strengthen their goalkeeping department. However, it remains to be seen how negotiations will unfold and whether a deal will be struck with either Inter Milan or Aston Villa.
