Atlético Madrid’s summer signings Julián Álvarez and Conor Gallagher made their LaLiga debuts in a 3-0 win over Girona at the Metropolitano on Sunday, signaling the club’s serious intent to challenge for the title this season.

Álvarez, who joined from Manchester City, was handed his first start, playing 81 minutes as a center- forward. Gallagher, a late arrival from Chelsea, came on as a substitute in the 58th minute, bringing energy and dynamism to the midfield.

Atlético’s victory also featured contributions from other new signings, including Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sørloth, who were integral to securing the three points.

The summer’s heavy investment reflects Atlético’s ambition to compete with LaLiga heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona.

While Álvarez and Gallagher have shown promise, manager Diego Simeone emphasized that both players need time to fully adapt to their new environment.

Despite being Atlético’s marquee signing, Álvarez, who scored 11 Premier League goals last season, is still adjusting to Simeone’s tactical demands.

Gallagher, known for his enthusiasm and passion, is expected to grow into his role as he becomes more familiar with his teammates and the Spanish league’s challenges.

As Atlético Madrid prepares to face Espanyol at the Metropolitano in their next fixture, fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see how these new additions continue to integrate and contribute to the team’s campaign for the LaLiga title.
